"Words Don't Speak Themselves" is an acoustically based track. It is characterized somewhat by musical irony. A I, III, IV, I progression in minor (a darker sounding progression) is complemented by a driving rhythm. This creates an atmosphere perfectly manifested by the song's character lyric, "The words may not speak themselves as they get lost in out hearts, but I hope that what they say is strong enough to cut through the dark." As Robert Plant may have said, "This is a song about hope".
